what's up with girls who cling onto their bfs like all the time?! there is this one couple i see here at the study tables everyday for the last couple of weeks and omg...........on a scale of 1-10, i'd say theyhug/touch/caress like 7/10 of the time! 2/10 for studying and maybe the remaning 1/10 dedicated to human excretory functions.

dont get me wrong, i think cuddling is fine BUT cuddling in broad day light, in a public place like school and cuddling every other hour is too much la. jin jialat. like this girl who clings onto her bf does it so much that even while she eats her lunch, her hands are hung like a monkey to her bf's neck. no kidding. i used to call them PDA couple because i'd always see them cuddling INTIMATELY (like get a room already..). but because i've seen this girl "cling" way too often, i no longer call her PDA girl. i now call her monkey and the guy tree trunk. haha. :P

haha damn funny. when tree trunk walks by us, i'd comment to the bf that the monkey did not swing by this time. haha im bitchy. i know. i like.

looking back..i guess i did alright.

this weekend was artsy fartsy weekend for me. come to think of it, most of my weekends thus far have been artsy fartsy. 2 weeks ago i went to watch stomp, last week i watched some musical at the esplanade. and this week, i attended a few artsy fartsy events.

first up, i dragged the bf to go attend some of the events hosted by the Singapore Writer's Festival. it goes from 24th Oct - 1 Nov. so if you are an avid reader, maybe you might want to check out their website because the team behind this event had popular writers flown down from wherever to come and talk. for example they had the author of stardust come down, the cartoonist of the Superman comic come down as well. and...they had my favourite cartoonist LAT come down as well! ok many of you may not know LAT. He's a malaysian cartoonist who draws cartoon about political issues. you know...malaysian politics and every now and then, inject some LKY into it.....yes...mei tan actually likes to read about politics ya...haha albeit politics in cartoon. eh still politics what! ok anyways, so we attended the meet-LAT-session and also watched a free movie screening of The Boy in Striped Pyjamies. damn bloody awesome show about the holocaust that left me all teary-eyed. and then at night, i drag the bf again to watch this super kickass Javanese dance. it was freaking that bloody good a performance i tell you.

ok so when i met up with Big Friendly Giant the next day and shared with her what artsy fartsy things i've been doing, she commented that i spent my day enriching myself and i realised that hey, BFG is right! i did enrich myself. in fact i always find things to do to enrich myself!

ok so...this morning i bumped into dear kerjin in the train. When i saw her, the sudden realisation that kerjin and i are different hit me. While she has now become the working adult in dress pants paired with a proper top and covered shoes, i am still the undergraduate in t-shirts, jeans and SLIPPERS. We used to be undergraduates together but now that has changed. so i commented that i am possibly the last amongst our friends to be working. kerjin thought i meant it as a "boo hoo im the last to be working" sort of comment whereas in fact i meant it in a "woah...it's so cool! im the last to be working!"

and now reflecting back on this comment i made in the train and the comment that BFG made, i realised that my life in NUS has been rather...interesting...? i realised that i did very random and spontaneous but nonethesless enriching things throughout my time here in NUS. now that im in the last couple of months in NUS, i reflected on the many things i've tried out throughout these years and i must say, i guess i did alright. :) i guess i lived my undergraduate life to its fullest :)

let's see..
  • i've lived in an NUS hostel for 1.5 years just for the fun of it. been there done that. check.
  • i've danced in front of a stadium full of cheering crowds (Rag day) TWICE! been there done that. check.
  • i've danced in UCC before. been there done that. check.
  • i've acted for hall play in UCC. been there done that. check.
  • i joined this community project to go to military ruled-Myanmar to teach. actually i joined the project without much thought. just whack and go. been there done that. check.
  • i applied for 6 months internship in advertising (totally bloody unrelated to what im doing) and got accepted for the internship just 2 days before the school semester started and thus just happily disappeared from school for a good 6 months, for honestly no good valid reason. been there done that. check.
  • i joined the NUS rovers on 2 of their trips to trek the highlands of Malaysian forest just cause i thought it might be fun. come to think of it, i signed up on my own those 2 times and was the only one there who had no friends can. ok so been there done that. check..
  • i spent a couple of months picking up kickboxing and cardiorobics again just for the fun of it. been there done that. check.
  • i took bloody random modules at school most of which pulled my cap down. a fine example would be my 4 language modules that i endeavoured upon. i dont regret taking these language modules though. it just made me realise that i have almost zero capacity to pick up another language. chinese and english is just about enough for me. haha. ok so been there done that. check.
  • oh yes, one fine day in late 2008, i decided to apply for Work and Travel USA, again, just for the fun of it. i really did not pay much attention to the application. just whack and apply possibly because that one fine day, i so happened to be bored. little did i know they called me down for an interview that same week and in 2 weeks i was notified that i got accepted into the program. and so yes, in a matter of 3 weeks, i went from "no travel plans for 2009 (like seriously, who would plan their travel trips the year before?!)" to a "shit...i am going to disappear to USA for freaking 3 months to be an AMUSEMENT PARK OPERATOR?!?!" ok err..so been there done that. check.
  • ok yes, psychology modules gave me the chance to go visit places like Institute of Mental Health and...........Singapore Changi Prison!! HOW AWESOME is that?! i, mei tan, am proud to announce that i have visited the prison setting and i must say, it was VERY interesting. but thats another story for another day. :) ok so been there, done that. check.
  • and now the final straw, i decide to happily take my time and graduate and do only like 3 modules per semester. so not only do i not graduate on time like my friends because i took a 6mth leave from school for internship, i take it to the next level and just take another 6 mths more and now...i am possibly the last amongst my close friends to be working.
so yeah. looking back on my NUS life thus far, i guess i did alright. i assume that the normal undergraduate would go to school, maybe join some cca group and stay committed to that group all through school and then graduate on time. but I, ME, MEILINDA, on the other hand seem to just touch and go, touch and go. join something, try it and then say bye bye. i love how my stay in NUS is marked by having tried all these random yet enriching things that i know may be my only chance to do so in school. and so on this note, i guess i did alright.i lived my undergraduate life in a rather different unconventional manner and i am proud of it. ha!

this weekend was interesting. i did something i never did before and i foresee i wont be doing so for a good few years - i went to KBOX!!!! yes!! i went to kbox with my BFG (Big Friendly Giant) Furuki. haha poor furuki. she's the one friend whom i dare drag out to do random and bo-liao things like KBOX-ing! i still cannot believe she agreed to spend her saturday like this.

kbox is super cheena a place can. noone speaks english there. NOONE. i would speak english and the staff would reply in chinese. and then i'll ngei ngei reply in english and they would still reply in chinese and in the end, i'd relent and speak chinese as well. and omg, kbox is bloody expensive. i cant believe there are regular kbox-goers can. damn expensive a hobby ya. we paid like $37/person and because we paid so much just to karaoke, we decided to sing till the cows come home. we were there at 830pm and because kbox closes at 3am, we sang NON-STOP till 2.57am. it was damn fun because i am quite sure we were the only room that was BLASTING english songs. we even danced to the hip-hop numbers and pretended we were clubbing can. we sang super cheesy pop songs like SPICE GIRLS because BFG used to like spice girls! yes furuki, im publicly humiliating you now: YES WORLD, FURUKI KEIKO used to LOVE SPICE GIRLS!! oh and we even tried malay and thai songs! so yes, i thought that my first kbox session went very well.

oh and today (sun) i went to watch stomp!! how bloody cool is that?! STOMP is damn good!! omg damn good. and i would like to shout a big THANK YOU to, yet again, BFG furuki for giving me STOMP tickets as my belated birthday present! bloody cool present ya! =)

bimbo me

hehe i can be quite a bimbo you know. i have zero interest in IT/electrical-related stuff. so as ashamed as it may be, i admit that when i buy my laptop/hp/electrical gadgets etc, i go for colour and design more than the features of the product.

the latest laptop i bought is unfortunately COMPLETELY black, only because the rest of the colours were so ugly. and so i have plans to make it pretty SOON...by pasting pretty stuff on it.

i chose my latest hp specifically because it was the most colourful phone on the rack. and note, it cost me $300 but i still bought it anyway because i think it is pretty.

ok so i heard there was comex a few weeks ago? what is it called? IT show? IT exhibition? ok who cares. anyways i told my bf to help me buy cheap earphones from that IT thingy. but he suggested i buy the expensive headphones kind because he believes it is way better than earphones. but see, i dont give a shit about IT/electrical stuff and so i simply dont see why i should splurge more than $20 on something i dont care much about. and so he offered to buy them for me instead and so.......i told him that he CAN buy me expensive headphones as long as it is pretty. I told him i'd rather use pretty cheap earphones than ugly-dull but good quality headphones. haha you tell me, bimbo anot.

hehe and so here is my latest expensive BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY, PRETTY audiotechnica headphones! its brown and i love brown!! and the headphones are shaped as cute brown buttons!! sooo pretty!! i like. well done bf. i will use it. ha!

i know facebook has been around for quite some time but i only realised this week that people update their status every other MINUTE!! refreshing one's facebook page every, say 5 min, can produce numerous status updates, photo album uploads etc etc. i know i may sound like someone living in some cave to have only realised this NOW but woah...seriously, people out there..why so hiong about letting the world know you're every move ah?? i mean updating your thoughts seems fine but updating your action/moves seems rather ridiculous to me. like i have this guy's facebook (i dont even know him btw) and he updates his moves every other min (i.e. "so and so is home alone" "so and so is hungry") oh and some even air their quarrels with their partners on facebook!! omg! we seem to be living a social VIRTUAL world now eh. and the lines of personal private space between humans seems to be blurring by the day eh.

ok im going to further sound like im living in some kampong but can anyone tell me what is pet society??? "haha..."

very interesting. i met up with a good friend for dinner. good friend laments about having to meet human beings tomorrow and how much good friend does not like human beings...

good friend: "mei....i like hanging out with you cause you are not human..."

mei: ?!@#$?%^?&*(()?%#?@ "woof woof"

to my dear good friend, i will NEVER get it. haha.
am studying for a shitting module now for its test in 1 hr.

description: how prison personnel assess and treat offenders
level of mei's interest in this module: zero

i took this module only because there is this excursion to changi prison! and i want to go!! BUT the sign up list is full and there is a "waiting list" as well and thats full too!! i want to go to see the prison!! my coursemate says i do have one more option to visiting the prison......haha any ideas on what crime i can commit ppl?
